WCLO Announces AirFEST Lands Two Jet Teams
IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Canadian Snowbirds have just announced they will perform a twilight show on Friday, May 28th, for the Southern Wisconsin AirFEST Friday Night Take-Off Party! This performance will be different from their aerobatic show on Saturday and Sunday.
IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Southern Wisconsin AirFEST announced that it has secured two jet teams for the 2010 air show season as announced at the International Council of Air Shows annual convention. The U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds and Canadian Snowbirds will perform their full aerobatic demonstration routines Saturday and Sunday May 29th and 30th at the Southern Wisconsin Regional Airport.
"We are incredibly honored to host two jet teams at our 9th show" said AirFEST founder and Executive Director Tom Morgan. "This is a very rare opportunity for us to produce a world class show that even Chicago, Oshkosh, and other huge shows won’t get this year."
The USAF Air Demonstration Squadron, aka “Thunderbirds” last appeared at AirFEST in 2004 and the Canadian Forces 431 Air Demonstration Squadron, “Snowbirds”, entertained AirFEST spectators in 2008.
About the Thunderbirds -
The Thunderbirds continue to represent all Airmen across the globe. The Team is made up of over 140 personnel. The primary Thunderbird mission is to represent the Pride, Precision and Professionalism all Airmen demonstrate. From the ground show to the breathtaking aerial maneuvers, the Thunderbirds continue to represent America's Airmen. The 2010 team is made up of 12 Officers and over 120 Enlisted Air Force members, coming together from over 30 career fields to perform the Thunderbird mission.
The Thunderbirds fly 8 General Dynamics F-16 Talons, commonly known as the Fighting Falcon. Six of these supersonic jets will fly during the show, with 4 of the aircraft performing maneuvers together most of the time and the two opposing solos performing aggressive, high-speed maneuvers demonstrating the incredible capabilities of this supersonic fighter jet.
About the Snowbirds -
The Snowbirds are a Canadian national icon, a symbol of pride and unity for all Canadians. The Snowbirds, who first performed in July of 1971, operated on a year to year basis for seven years, before being finally established as a permanent squadron on 1 April, 1978. The Canadian Forces Air Demonstration Team was then renamed 431 (Air Demonstration) Squadron. The Snowbirds have flown the CT-114 Tutor jet since 1971. The aircraft was designed and built in Canada and was used by the Canadian Forces as its basic pilot training aircraft until 2000. The jets are painted in a distinctive red and white paint scheme symbolic of Canada's national flag. As members of the nation's military, the Snowbirds are proud to fly Canada's colours across North America.
“I can’t emphasize enough how prestigious this is for the Janesville and Beloit area” Said Morgan. In 2009 the Thunderbirds and Snowbirds only performed together once and that was on Memorial Day Weekend over the Harbor in New York in front of a crowd of ½ million people! We’re fortunate to have dedicated volunteers and sponsors that help us produce a show of the caliber and to be seen as capable of handling such an arduous task.”
